Question

A mother of a 17 y/o autistic, developmentally delayed adolescent, drove from Washington state to another state and in 2 weeks was able to get her son on medicaid and admitted to a residential treatment facility. This mother refuses to take her son home and has made is clear that she wants nothing more to do with him. Is there a law against this and if so what can be done?

Answer

You don't say what your relationship is to the mom and son or why there's anything wrong with putting him into residential treatment. If she has abandoned him she could be charged with neglect but your description doesn't really make that case. I'd need a lot more information to understand the situation to give you an answer to your questions.
