I live in Louisiana and need to file for divorce from my husband. We have been married for six months. How soon can I file for my divorce?
Answer
There are a couple of ways you can accomplish it. A 102 divorce (called so because it comes from La. Civil code article 102) is filed when you separate and then you wait 6 months before seeking the judgment. A 103 is filed after you have been separated 6 months. One consideration should be debts. Do you need to separate the community to prevent being made responsible for debts for which the other party contracts.
