how much time can a person get for attempting to break in a house?

Question

how much time can a person get for attempting to break in a house?

Answer

Generally an "attempt" is a degree less. Burglary of a habitation can be a first or second degree felony depending on the facts so attempted would be a second or third degree felony. The charge could also possibly be trespass to a habitation depending on the intent - which would make it a Class A misdemeanor and an attempted.trespass.to a habitation would be a class b misdemeanor.
