Question

I live in NJ. If my employer presents me with a signed letter of termination (they are closing the office, we are all terminated) can they later present me with some kind of amended letter extending my term of employment under the same or possibly different terms and therefore in effect force me to stay on--I don't want want to stay on past the original termination date, but I don't want it to look like I "quit" and have an issue collecting Unemployment.

Answer

If the first letter was a termination without qualifications, you can rely on it for UE and other purposes. You are not obligated to let them rehire you.
