my husband and i are going through a divorce. i live in nyc and he lives in vermont but we were married in brooklyn, ny. i signed legal papers for the divorce and sent them back to him. a couple of weeks later i received a final divorce decree and order.... signed by the judge with the date the decree became absolute. i went to social security to change my name on my ss card and the lady was like " where's the stamp and something about different colors". i didn't know what she was talking about. the only stamp on the paper is saying filed, vermont superior court, and a date. when i got this decree, there was a paper i had to sign saying i waived the final court date. i've mailed it back to the vermont family court that has my case. my question is....1. is my divorce final or just filed 2. should i be on the lookout for other paperwork with a raised stamp and "colors"
