Question

I work at a TV station in a "right to work state" Can an employer prohibit me from leaving for a higher paying job even if I still have 3 months left on my contract?

Answer

Only if your contract includes a non-compete agreement that prevents you from going to this other job. If you leave your current job and you are still covered by a contract, whether or not you are limited by a non-compete agreement, you may owe the employer damages for non-performance of those three months on the contract. The contract may have a liquidated damages provision that explains what damages you would owe for the non-performance period. Otherwise it would be up to the station to make an argument for the damages sustained due to your non-performance.
