Can you give me some examples of ethnic songs?

Can you give me some examples of ethnic songs?
I can't list any particular ethnic song for you. Only an example of what is an ethnic song, "when" it was an ethnic song and some ideas of how to find it.

I am no authority on music in any way whatsoever. The following contains a simple opinion by one person. It is not the only answer. The following is also poorly written and provides no literature to quote or support any of my opinions in any of this. Saying that, I will thank you for this opportunity and now will begin to address your question:

To begin, I define the word ethnic as a minority group within a vast majority OR a group that shares a common culture, religion and language amongst themselves and remains completely separate from the rest of the world.
In today's world, people have travelled far and wide living far beyond the borders of their ancestors of ancient times. Much of the unique idiosyncrasy's of culture and language of small countries and tribes has been forgotten or simply lost through centuries of inter religious, inter language and multicultural sharing, understanding and unity. Music, like everything else in the world is alive, changing, evolving and creating new ideas, definitions and attitudes throughout the planet. National anthems of nearly all industrialized countries presently cannot be claimed to be distinctly ethnic to one race, one creed, one language, culture or one philosophy for these reasons. Understanding this will help to break down the mental block and free your mind to explore alternate routes of discovery (Think about this question differently.)
National anthems of the "Old World" (Africa, Asia, Europe) in ancient times were generally all ethnic songs (People didn't get around as much and if they did it was usually for purposes of war.). And so were the songs of the citizens of each country. So look in the past for ethnic songs.
Songs of detached, small tribes living far from main stream civilization will possess the ethnic characteristics you are searching for. But you will most likely have to visit in person for a chance to listen in! Check out songs by Mali, Senegal, Ghana and Gambia tribes of west Africa. These are predominantly the tribes that endured enslavement by the United States during the begginings of that country. The African tribes brought with them their oral history, traditions and unaccompanied vocal music which eventually led to Jazz and Blues. One example might be Blues and Jazz. Distinctly African American and incredibly beautiful music in my opinion. These two genres of music have also led to the creation of Rock, R&B, Rap and Hip-hop. Although it may be argued by some that these branches do not reflect a distinct ethnicity.
Saying this, I advise you to look for your ethnic songs in classic periods of the older genres I mentioned: Jazz and Blues. The original compositions were the years 1890-1910 for Jazz and try Blues between 1870-1900. Do some research, look up the pioneers (around 1915-1935) who really broke the mold and shared these genre's with the world. That's about the best "ethnic" example of music I can give you. Also my favourite genre's if you couldn't tell already.

Good luck in all your musical endeavours!

-Ry
