Will a durty air filter make the check engine light come on?
When the contaminants trapped in the air filter slow the volume rate of airflow past the mass air flow sensor located in front of the filter housing, the ECC (engine control computer) will trip a code. As the filter becomes more and more clogged, performance will lag. The TPS (throttle position sensor) will exceed it's operating range as you push more and more on the gas pedal.. The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) will determine the car is not moving fast enough for the TPS position and an inaccurate reading is sent..
Hope this helps
